The hall is full of cheers for Ippo, but the match is a one-sided beat down and it is Date who is dominating. Okita begs him to forget about the heart break shot, but Nakadai explains that if he can not land it against Ippo, he has no hope against the world champion. Both fighters get close to each other and begin trading punches, which causes Yagi to think that Ippo is back to normal. Kamogawa states that he is still unconscious and that he will throw the towel in if necessary. It seems Ippo can barely keep fighting, as he only follows Kamogawa's orders in a semi-conscious state. Ippo is relying on Date's body to remain standing, so when Date retreats, Ippo immediately falls. Ippo is so confused that even as he gets up, he can not locate Date in the ring. Date realizes that when Ippo was following him, it was not a fight plan but actually him not being able to stand on his own. Date with admiration for Ippo's fighting spirit, begs for him to turn around, spot him and keep fighting.
