After witnessing Saeki's complete devastation at the hands of Sendou in a match that set the record for fastest featherweight defense, Kamogawa and Yagi are in shock as they leave the the stadium. They are approached by Sendou himself, who states he can not feel like the champion until he beats Ippo, so they should let them fight. Kamogawa agrees to this and responds that when the time is right, they will take the belt away from him. Sendou is exited about the match and before leaving, he tells them that as good as it is, the Dempsey roll will not work against him.
Back at his home, Ippo watches Sendou's title defense, and just like his coach, he is in shock at the sight of Saeki losing in such a way. He notices how it looks like Sendou can predict where Saeki will hit next, an combining his eyes and shoulder feints, he is able to corner and knock him out.
Kamogawa pays Ippo a visit and they talk about how much they have improved since the All Japan Rookie King Tournament. Ippo confesses that he is not satisfied with the result of their first match, as he still feels it is not over. He remembers how Sendou was sitting in his corner when the match ended but if he had gotten up, he would have won for sure. Kamogawa tells him that he has improved just as much and that this time they will take the belt. Before going back in, Ippo tells Kamogawa that against Sendou, the Dempsey roll will be useless. Hearing this, Kamogawa notes to himself that Ippo realized it as well.
