On his way to Sendou's match, Ippo tells Kamogawa he thinks Sendou will win, and is curious about how Sendou will handle a left-handed fighter, given the fact that the champion and Ippo are the same kind of fighter. Kamogawa tells him that they are not the same, but for now he should focus on observing his next opponent.
Once inside the venue and after sitting, Ippo helps an old woman to find her chair, the reveals herself to be Sendou's grandmother, and asks to go to the bathroom right before the beginning of the match. Ippo quickly takes her there and is desperate to get back in time while he waits for her to come out.
By the time Ippo returns, the match has already started and he is shocked to see Sendou getting repeatedly hit by the Shigeta's jab. Kamogawa then explains the difference in preferred ranges between Ippo and Sendou who are both in-fighters but the former would have the advantage against a southpaw. Despite Shigeta's clear dominance, Ippo believes that in ten rounds Sendou will find the opportunity and land a devastating punch. Sendou launches his smash but Shigeta easily deflects it, promoting Kamogawa to state he is fooling Sendou and might knock him out.
