SummaryEdit

After being told by Fujii that Sakaguchi was fired by Gregory, Miyata meets the former champion in the waiting room. Gregory is intrigued as to how Miyata was able to keep pushing forward despite the damage inflicted. He responds that it was only "spirit", to which Gregory says he must have more spirit than anyone. Before leaving, Gregory warns Miyata about Sakaguchi, who might want revenge against him. Miyata tells him there is no reason to worry, as the belt he just won will not be taken by anyone.

Sometime later at the gym, Ippo finds out that Date will have a world title match against undefeated WBA super champion of the featherweight division Ricardo Martinez. Takamura explains that had he given up on Martinez, Date would have had a better chance at the WBC title, which is the other title Japan has access to. However, Date's obsession with the only man who has ever defeated him is stronger than his desire to simply be world champion. Believing Date will win, Ippo wonders how strong the world's best really is. Kamogawa then appears with an opportunity for Ippo to get his answer. He tells him that Martinez will be coming to Japan, and as a sparring partner he requested the JBC featherweight champion. Ippo tells his coach to please allow him to do it in order to try finding a weakness for Date's sake, but more importantly to experience the strength of the best in the world.
