SummaryEdit

Only thirty seconds into the first round, Ippo claims the first down on a retreating Yamada, who falls with the help of his own momentum after receiving a powerful combination that ends in a straight from the champion. The audience is divided with Ippo's fans relieved at the obvious result unfolding, and Yamada's friends who urge him to get up and not let it end so soon. Yamada gets on his knees as the count goes on, and reflects on how flawless Ippo's move was. However, since he was already expecting that kind of power, he manages to get back up and the fight is resumed. Ippo instantly attacks again and Yamada clinches in order to buy time. Giving him no time to recover, Ippo pushes his face away and breaks up the clinch. Yamada then tries to land a hit, but Ippo weaving manages to dodge all punches. Convinced at first that by throwing many punches he can eventually land one eventually, Yamada begins to lose hope when Ippo expertly dodges everyone and connects a powerful combination of his own that sends him to the ropes again. Displaying more aggressiveness than in any match before, Ippo appears so ferocious that the public gets scared at the sight of him. While the people comment on how terrifying and strong he is, Takamura appears to be the only one who notices that Ippo is actually fighting in desperation of ending the match as soon as possible.
