While Yagi places on the gym, the poster for the upcoming JBC featherweight title match, Ippo is in the middle of road work, reminding himself that he must maintain both his physical and mental condition at one hundred percent by the time he faces Sendou again. The match is extremely popular and gains so much attention that it is an immediate sold out, with color articles about it in the magazines and crowds of people wanting Ippo's autograph at the gym.
While Ippo gets ready to train, Mari approaches him and lets him know that she wrote the article from the magazine he is holding. Ippo knows he will not be able to use the Dempsey roll, and states that unlike the fight against Date, he is not thinking about the belt, as this time something else is at stake. Mari recognizes that both champion and challenger are thinking the same thing, and have developed a bond over the first fight that no one can understand.
Back at his home, Ippo appears to be very calm (which upsets Umezawa, who believes he should be more exited for his title bout), however, Ippo's mother suspects that he is actually very nervous. Her suspicions are confirmed when she goes into his room and finds him sitting in a corner unable to sleep. Ippo remarks to himself that he has never felt such excitement before, and can not wait for the match.
