The coach hopes Ippo can down Ozuma before his ducking starts to slow and Ozuma's coach tells his student to create distance. Ippo lands a blow to Ozuma's face and goes for another, but Ozuma evades. Ozuma spins and sends out one of his hooks, but Ippo ducks and tries a body blow. Ozuma barely dodges and tries another hook, but Ippo ducks once again and the process repeats several times, leaving the audience at the edge of their seats. Ozuma's hooks soon begin to get faster, and Ippo is hit by one of them, knocking him down.

TriviaEdit

  • The Japanese word Sente (先手) in the chapter title has a double meaning. It can refer to either the black player in shogi (a reference to Jason Ozuma's performance in the chapter), or it can be translated as initiative (a reference to how both boxers are focused on taking the lead from the start).
