Being interviewed after defending the title, Sendou apologizes for his performance and declares that he will have a rematch with Ippo in the latter's home at Kourakuen Hall. He then throws the microphone at Ippo, who is verbally assaulted by the audience who were unaware of his presence. Trying to run at first, Ippo is stopped by Kamogawa, who tells him to say something. Overwhelmed by the crowds attitude, Ippo barely manages to say that his birthday will be three days after the match and he would like to win the title and spend his twentieth birthday "in a good mood". Being the rival of "Osaka's hero", Ippo has gained a certain level of respect and admiration from the enemy crowd, who compliment him on his bravery.
Before leaving, Kamogawa decides to check on the blue corner's waiting room. There, they find Shigeta lying unconscious in wait for an ambulance. As his trainer expresses regret for not stopping the fight, Shigeta wakes up unable to remember the ending of the fight, but realizes he has lost. Ippo notices how even at that point, his eyes are still not focused, and Kamogawa notices the boxer's reaction to his trainer's hand when it gets close to his face.
As Kamogawa and Ippo leave, the former explains that Shigeta might be suffering Punch eye due to Sendou's devastating attacks. Despite having witnessed Sendou's new abilities, Ippo is still exited about the match, as is his coach.
