After training, Kamogawa tells Ippo to go home and rest for the fight. As the others wait outside, Tomiko arrives at the gym, and in the ensuing conversation Takamura bets with Aoki that she can not accurately read fortune with her cards. As Tomiko begins hinting at an embarrassing incident involving Takamura, he begs her to stop and keep quite. Ippo approaches them to say he is leaving, and states he does not want to hear his fortune for the match, as anything bad may become true. He is however unable to resist and returns only to be interrupted by Kamogawa before Tomiko reveals what she sees.
Meanwhile, Date's doctor tells him that the results of his tests show that he is in perfect condition for fighting, and that he pities his next opponent. As Date walks, he notes to himself that Ippo has no reason to be pitied, because unlike Date himself, he is still young.
Likewise, Ippo is motivated for the fight and can not wait to hear the bell ringing. As he walks home, he remembers his last sparring match with Date, but is confident the result will be different.
