Itou was the second seed in Japan prior to his match with Takamura. A look at his record suggests that he is an experienced boxer.
However, for Takamura, Itou was a stepping stone before he took on the world. Their match was a title defense, but Takamura resolved to only use left jabs to defeat Itou, going by the old proverb "he who rules with his left rules the world". In the end he succeeded, and Itou lost by first round knockout.
He is bald with a dark skin tone (in the anime; the manga depicts him as pale), rigid facial features, and notably pronounced cheekbones.
Aside from the fact that he took his bout with Takamura seriously, Itou's personality was not elaborated upon.
Itou uses remarkably sharp left jabs to control the pace, and seems adept at dodging lefts as well.
Itou is the last Japanese boxeur who fighting against Takamura.
