Desperate to end the match as soon as possible to not have to hit his former friend any longer, Ippo charges like a demon and scores the second down of the fight with the most powerful punch he has thrown. Knowing that Yamada can not get up, Ippo walks to the corner and turns around just to be in shock at the sight of a yet again standing challenger. The audience who was at first in shock due to Ippo's performance, are no stupefied when they see Yamada's determination. With slightly more than a minute left, Ippo knows that by scoring one more knockdown he can end the fight, but Yamada tells himself that he has done nothing to show Ippo his growth, and thus can not let it end like that. Despite looking like his performance is perfect, Ippo is not really as effective due to the fact that he is rushing the match in an attempt to end it soon. He does not throw his punches correctly and begins to waste his own energy on Yamada who is clearly using operation turtle in order to find an opening. Yamada throws a body blow that Ippo blocks, but helps the former realize that when Ippo weaves, only his had moves, and his body remains still, which leaves him open for more body blows. With his new tactic, Yamada is more successful and lands several body blows, but it is Ippo who still dominates the exchange.
When the round ends, it is Yamada, who on the verge of defeat is angry that they had to stop. Yamada's attitude leaves everyone confused, as they are not aware of the fact that he was planning to use a special move right before he was stopped.
