SummaryEdit

By defeating Mashiba, Ippo has now become the East Japan Rookie King. His coach and Yagi enter the ring to congratulate him on the victory, but they are interrupted by Mashiba who refuses to accept the decision. As Mashiba moves towards Ippo wanting to fight, Ippo responds by respectfully bowing and offering a hand shake. Mashiba in anger hits the floor repeatedly and then turns around and leaves the ring.

Later that night at the award ceremony for all the rookie kings of different weight classes, Ippo is awarded the "Most Talented Rookie Award".

In Mashiba's room, his sister feels bad about him boxing for her sake. She prepares to beg him to quit, but before she gets the chance, he states how much boxing draws him in and that he would not be able to stop.

Ippo, now ranked number ten by the Japanese Boxing Commission, and with the praise of all those who underestimated him, leaves the hall after his sixth victory.
