Mikami (三上, Mikami) is a trainer at the Nishikawa Boxing Gym.

Background[]

When he first saw Oda Yūsuke, Mikami was impressed by his potential, and when Oda won his first match with a powerful right straight, he thought he could make him the JBC featherweight champion. After some time he realised that Oda was not a hard-working boxer, and did not take boxing seriously as he believed the power of his right was all he needed.

When Oda Yūsuke's match against Makunouchi Ippo was announced, Mikami forbade Oda from seeing his daughter, Mikami Reiko. Mikami then found out that Oda was seeing his daughter when he found the two talking. He warned Oda about Ippo and took Reiko away from him until he straightened his attitude.

When Oda finally decided to train seriously, the coach-boxer duo did so with enthusiasm. Despite their hard work, they ultimately fall short in the actual fight, where after a great display of courage, Oda earned his coach's respect, but lost the fight. After the fight, he told Oda to not quit boxing, and that they would win the next fight.

At the Nishikawa gym, he was met by Īmura Mari, who wanted to speak with the boxer, Oda. However, Mikami revealed to her that Oda retired from boxing after fighting Ippo due to his condition. Since Oda became a trainer at the gym, Mikami called Oda over so that Mari can talk to him.

Appearance[]

Mikami has short black hair and dark brown eyes. He usually wears a turquoise coloured shirt.

Personality[]

Mikami is a serious and strict man who is protective over his daughter. He takes his training seriously. When one of his boxers get lazy, he yells at them. Mikami thought of Oda as lazy at first, however when Oda began training seriously and lost the match against Ippo, he began to respect him.
