Summary
At the Naniwa Kentou-kai, Yanaoka has three sparring partners in higher divisions, ready to spar with Sendou. The coach explains to Mari that they really have no particular strategy against the Dempsey roll. Surprised by this, Mari is exited to see where they get their confidence from, but is even more shocked at the sight of Sendou quickly knocking out his opponent in a display of moves that he has never shown before. Yanaoka further explains that even with superior power, Sendou was outclassed by both Volg and Ippo due to the fact that he was missing the weight shifting capabilities in close range. In order to improve that, Sendou ran more than ever before and achieved the lower body he now has.
While on his way back with Mari, Sendou states that against Ippo it will not be like his training partners, and admits he is afraid of Ippo's power, and furthermore; afraid of losing the fight. He also tells her that the feeling of ecstasy he had in his last match against Ippo, is something no other opponent can deliver. When he hears a firetruck passing by, Sendou takes off, but not before telling Mari to tell Ippo that in the match, it is not the belt on the line, but their pride as men.
