SummaryEdit

Unlike previous rounds, this one begins with neither fighter taking the initiative. Mashiba recognizes that Sendou is not tired, and the reason he is not moving is Ippo's eyes, which are the same he showed at the East Japan Rookie King Tournament. Suddenly Ippo throws the first punch, but Sendou dodges and attempts a smash that Ippo predicts and successfully nullifies with a punch of his own. Not knowing which are feints and which are actual punches, Ippo comes to the conclusion that he most protect against all of them regardless. Ippo begins his trademark weaving in that usually leads to the Dempsey roll, but it is stopped by Sendou, who rushes in before Ippo has a chance of actually initiating the move. With the fight at close range once again, Ippo presses forward, dodging punches and landing significant ones of his own. Ippo gets the upper hand in the exchange, landing damaging punches against the champion, but the latter takes a step back and switches to southpaw style in order to deliver his deadly smash. Ippo recognizes the technique used against Volg and barely manages to cover up and block it. Despite hitting the guard, Sendou's dominant arm's strength is enough to push Ippo's entire body back. With Ippo now against the ropes, Sendou relentlessly attacks and corners the challenger. Intending to end the fight, Sendou unleashes a barrage against Ippo, who begins to fall, but it is Sendou who suddenly stops and crumbles to the ground, leaving the audience confused.
