After Sanada fails to penetrate the guard, he notices that it is a Cross arm block, the technique Ippo used to protect himself. In response to having his Sunday punch neutralized, Sanada throws many hiens, given the fact that the cross arm block does not allow Ippo to easily attack. However, Ippo ignores the lefts and pushes forward with his guard intact. Despite being effective against the uppercut, the block is not useful when face with the hook Sanada lands to take back the pace. Ippo then reveals that getting into close range was his plan, as he begins weaving and dodging punches. Ippo gives Sanada a body blow that leaves him in pain, and the challenger responds by attacking as well, since his legs can not move. The clear winner of the exchange is Ippo, as he lands a succession of hooks that send Sanada to the floor.
