General Discussion
Here's how I believe maybe it will go, Ippo will face 2 opponents and win extremely easily in the A Class Tournament by the first round or second round. He fights Imai to get the JBC Title back. Then 7-10 unknown opponents and then Miyata and Ricardo.
We might even get Itagaki VS Miyata too. Itagaki has an OPBF rank.
10 more fights for Ippo to have, in a way, if the story of the side characters is ending, Ippo most likely will have more fights, maybe not, who knows. I just want to see more of Ippo in the ring and great opponents.
Aoki and Kimura get their titles with a few defenses and perhaps retire unless they are still by the end of the series getting a world title.
I believe Sendo will retire after the match against Ricardo, he will be the broken boxer. He is the only character who gets hit so much aside Ippo.
Mashiba will retire soon, as we saw in the "Grim Reaper to the World Arc", either he wins the world title or he loses. I think he wins it and then retires.
For Volg we don't have any story to go on with yet, we might get a hint soon.
Wally after defeated by Ricardo climbs up again to the world rankings and maybe gets the WBC title first to help with his dream or another belt, then retires.
We will only have Takamura, Ippo and Miyata as active boxers by the last arcs/sagas I am guessing.
Miyata vs Ippo might be in the Tokyo Dome, then whoever wins will fight Ricardo.
And potentially Takamura might lose at some point down the line, the eye plot has been so far since 500s, there's something going on, it can't be just trolling from the author, it happens in almost every recent match of Takamura with the whole "weak to left hooks to his right eye". The fight against Keith Dragon had a bigger meaning to me.
Ippo is 26-27 in the current story supposedly. That is the same age when Date Eiji came back to the ring again, he fought 2 opponents, probably in the Class A Tournament, then the Japanese title again. Ippo and Kumi I expect them to get closer, an actual relationship, let them get married already. But a plot that clears her issues is needed first. Unless Aikawa plays a role later for a bit. Remember the paper she gave to Ippo! He dropped it there at the tree with the line next to it.
Juan Guarcia was a difficult fight for Mashiba, the world champion that defeated Juan might be perhaps almost close to the level of Ricardo Martinez. Depending how the story goes and if we even see this fight at all, I am guessing this will be the most difficult fight for his career, if Mashiba loses, he will retire. I believe Mashiba will manage to win by the 10th round. This will be the last match Ippo watches maybe? in which he will return to the ring after. The current events in the manga indicate that Ippo is coming back soon. Ippo within him wants to be back in the ring he just doesn't expresses it yet out loud. From the match with Ricardo VS Wally and Volg's match, the fire will begin to build up. Kumi is the MAIN reason, Ippo is being held back, aside from his personality. We need some sort of character development for Kumi and Ippo, in which we already got some of it with the last match of Mashiba. Ippo will be his second in this.
I mean, he couldve been given a way better name, Eleki Battery sounds plausible as a ring name, but Papaya Dachiu???? What does that even mean
Hey guys I just found a little mistake in the Spars: Ippo clearly wins his spar against Matsuura (ch 1144) as he has his opponent against the ropes and is Matsuura's coach who ask for the spar to stop. I think you shoul change it.
I hope his next matches are outside of Japan, for once let's hope he agrees. Or that the champion refuses to come to Japan, and Takamura being the man he is steps out. It will be very fresh to have more fights outside of Japan for the last half!
Let's say Las Vegas or Mexico City, being really big fights that people around the world are watching, and Ippo having a match there too.
So Kamogawa is back and Ippo is suddenly alright to put boxing gloves on. The chance of Ippo going back to boxing has skyrocketed.
Decided to make a discussion topic for chapter releases for Wikia users. Chapter 1238 is translated in English now with 12 pages. Ippo telling Taihei to catch five leaves, just like Takamura telling Ippo to catch 10 leaves back in chapter 1...Nostalgic.
Itagaki only able to catch 4-5 leaves is funny.
Noticing an edit war. Until someone provides proof (chapter and page number or anything Jyoji Morikawa wrote), we should leave Volg's record as unknown. Like other Wikia's, video games and anime are not canon.
Well ippo has lost his comeback mach , and as he said to kumi if he loses again , he will retire ... I think the magna is coming to the end maby , becouse if the main character quit's boxing then what ? I know there is still takamura and miyata , but miyata staid in his weigh class for ippo so that he could fight him.
I cant image another comeback from ippo , it has to be really emocional and dramatic but still what do you think
I do hate how the referee is just a viwer in the bouts...in example when ippo fought Woli he commited so many fouls (Woli) and referee never existed anywere and the bigest example is when Kyosuke wins Itagaki buy pushin with head and looking down to the mat (his whole strategie was just fouls) but he get the title with not even a warn. I Get it its a manga it has to be unrealistic at some point, but thats just kills everything for some1 who know a bit about boxing....(if Itagaki dont win in a first round KO Kyosuke next time they fight its gonna be a big disapointment) STILL I LOVE MATHIS MANGA SO MUCH!!!!
I was skeptical at first about the detached retina thing (the manga never confirms that Takamura has this, and actually denies it prior to the David Eagle fight), but after reading up on Shinji Takehara, the boxer whom Takamura is supposed to be based on[citation needed], I see that Morikawa has been setting up Takamura's upcoming match very carefully, and sadly that match may end in Takamura's loss.
For those who don't know the facts:
-Shinji Takehara is the first and only World Middleweight Champion Japan has ever had.
-He was found on the streets by his coach. He used to brawl a lot with other high schoolers.
-He was undefeated for his first 24 matches, most of those matches being by KO. He was reputed to have a very hard punch, the hardest in the division (and hence the world).
-In his 25th match he lost by doctor stoppage. He was found to have a detached retina. This ended his career, though he went on to become a popular TV star.
-That 25th match was his first title defense in the world middleweight division.
Let's look at Takamura's history, shall we?
-He's the first and only World Middleweight Champion Japan has ever had. Considering this series takes place in the 90s, which is after Takehara was champion, the fact that Takehara is never brought up in the same discussions as Takamura is a big red flag that Takamura is Takehara in the lore of Hajime no Ippo.
-Takamura was found on the streets by Kamogawa, used to brawl alot, etc. etc.
-Takamura is undefeated as of his 24th match, all of his matches being by KO. He's the strongest character in the series, point blank.
-His next match is his 25th. It's already been foreshadowed that he may have a detached retina in his right eye---many many times. The biggest questions, if it is proven that he does have a detached retina, are why Sanada said he doesn't (was he helping Takamura? Did he simply make a bad diagnosis?), and how Takamura has been able to hide it for so long.
-His next match will be his first title defense at the world middleweight division.
I have to say, a lot of things are lining up. Could Takamura really be headed for a doctor stoppage in his next fight?
Do any of you know what that spring action machine he used was called?
Battle of the speedsters. Who would win?
Neither of them are good at taking hits, so I don't think it would go the distance.
It has been noted that Ippo's reflexes have dropped considerably after his second loss, but I'm not too sure that it's completely physical, he did say in Chapter 1077 that the doctors said his brain was fine.
I was thinking that perhaps instead of the problem being entirely physical, it's primarily mental, like a less noticeable form of punch phobia or performance anxiety where the fear or either getting hurt or failing and being forced to retire is slowing him down.
Or perhaps something simplier like still being in despair over the loss and the reason why (His lack of drive to win by becoming ruthless), just in a more subdued and less noticiable manner.
The reason why I think this is partially because of Chapter 1077 and the fact that if he has actually started developing Punch Drunk Syndrome and/or a Glass Jaw, then this series is gonna end really soon.
