When the signal is given for the coach's to leave, Ippo's legs do not respond, and he is unable to get up. In hopes of helping him react, Kamogawa gives him a painful slap in the back and sends him out to what is probably the final round.
Despite Dankichi and Sanada's predictions, Ippo moves in an full power with a straight that misses, but shocks his opponent. Ippo keeps attacking like he was never hurt, and tells himself to think about nothing other than the fight or he will have trouble with the pain. The entire audience is now solely on Ippo's side, Sanada falls victim to the pressure. Dankichi and his fighter recognize that Ippo no longer aims to return to his corner and is going for a "suicide dash". Ippo lands a straight, but Sanada remains calm and lands a body blow. Despite being in tremendous pain, Ippo returns with an attack of his own, and so does Sanada. Sanada thinks that if he can survive Ippo's barrage, he will win the fight, as his opponent will no longer be able to move. With little energy left, Ippo starts moving from side to side and starts his Dempsey roll.
