The third round begins but Gregory does not take the opportunity that Miyata being hurt gives him. Instead, it is the challenger who throws a one two. He then pursues Gregory to the end of the ring and keeps throwing punches in fast secession. Gregory realizes that he is fighting with willpower alone and is still hurt. They enter an exchange where they both receive and deliver powerful blows as if not caring about their own condition anymore. Miyata is caught with a punch he was able to see, but unable to dodge. Despite this, it is Gregory on the ropes and running away, while Miyata searches for an opening. Miyata then goes for his counter but pulls back in fear of a bloody cross, which give the champion the chance to deliver a body blow. After the hit, Miyata is clearly hurt, and Gregory realizes that the pain from the previous round is still there. He throws a full-powered straight that lands cleanly on Miyata's face. However, Miyata keeps on fighting with punches that have no effect on Gregory. The champion knows that his opponent is being motivated by something special, and even though he is not being hurt, he is in shock at the sight of Miyata's determination. Miyata remembers the promises he made to his father and his rival, as he walks forward intending to end the fight.
